Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all relevant authorities to remain fully prepared for every possible challenge arising from the uncertain regional situation, warning that escalating tensions could affect Pakistan's economy in the future.
The directives were issued during a high-level meeting in Islamabad to review the impact of regional tensions on the national economy, where officials also presented a report on the government's austerity measures and economic preparedness.
Chairing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the regional situation remains uncertain and stressed the need for proactive planning to protect the country's economic stability.
He instructed authorities to prepare a comprehensive action plan so that timely measures can be implemented if the situation worsens.
The prime minister acknowledged concerns that growing regional tensions could negatively impact Pakistan's economy in the coming months and emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant.
Govt says economy remains stable
Despite the uncertain regional environment, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed confidence in the country's economic position.
"By the grace and mercy of Allah, the country's economy is stable," the prime minister said during the meeting.
He added that the government must continue monitoring developments closely while ensuring the country remains prepared for any emerging challenges.
Petroleum supplies sufficient
Officials briefing the prime minister assured him that Pakistan currently has ample reserves of petroleum products to meet national requirements.
The meeting was informed that arrangements have also been made to ensure the uninterrupted future supply of petroleum products despite regional uncertainty.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to take strict action, in coordination with provincial governments, against anyone involved in creating artificial shortages of petroleum products.
PM highlights fuel management strategy success
The prime minister praised the government's timely and effective strategy that successfully managed fuel supplies during previous periods of uncertainty. He said the government's measures helped protect the public, including motorcycle riders, rickshaw drivers, transporters and other consumers, from the impact of fuel shortages.
According to the prime minister, government subsidies also helped effectively control the effects of rising fuel prices on ordinary citizens.
The PM appreciated the strong support shown by the public during previous national campaigns focused on petroleum conservation and energy-saving measures. He said citizens had played a significant role in the success of earlier austerity initiatives and expressed hope that the same spirit of cooperation would continue.
The prime minister stressed that, just as the public fully supported previous austerity campaigns, adopting austerity at the national level would again be necessary if circumstances require.
Govt to remain on high alert
Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that all institutions must remain fully prepared to respond swiftly to any economic challenges arising from developments in the region.
He emphasized that comprehensive planning, adequate fuel reserves, strict enforcement against artificial shortages and continued public cooperation would be key to safeguarding Pakistan's economy during a period of regional uncertainty.
