Jude Bellingham could face disciplinary action from FIFA after he slapped Argentina's Valentin Barco following England's 2-1 defeat in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final.
The 23-year-old was congratulating Argentina's players after the final whistle before becoming involved in an exchange with midfielder Barco. Video footage appeared to show Bellingham reacting to a comment from the Argentine before striking the Strasbourg player with his right hand.
Other players stepped in to separate the pair. None of the match officials saw the incident involving the Real Madrid midfielder.
The British newspaper The Sun reported that FIFA may consider disciplinary action against Bellingham. The governing body has already faced criticism over its handling of incidents during the tournament.
Bellingham, who was in tears after the final whistle, could receive a suspension, which would rule him out of England's third-place play-off against France in Miami on Saturday.
However, The Sun added that FIFA may decide to take no further action. It could also impose a fine, with any punishment suspended.
