A strong competition is expected among leading coaches for the position of England cricket team’s new red-ball head coach, with Pakistan’s current head coach Mike Hesson included among the shortlisted candidates.
According to the British media reports, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has shortlisted nine candidates for the permanent head coach position following Brendon McCullum’s tenure. The candidates have included Mike Hesson, former England head coach Andy Flower, Stephen Fleming, Justin Langer, Tom Moody and Kumar Sangakkara.
The reports stated that English candidates Jonathan Trott, former Ireland and Hampshire coach Eddo Brandes, and Marcus Trescothick are also considered strong contenders.
According to the British publication, England were searching for a new head coach after recent poor performances, with the team losing seven of their previous nine Test matches.
Reports said an interim head coach may be appointed for the upcoming series against Pakistan, while the process of contacting candidates for the permanent role has also begun.
