Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has abolished the long-standing fees for birth and death registration across the province.
The Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025 have come into effect. Registration of births and deaths will now be carried out free of charge across Punjab. The requirement for a court decree for late registrations has also been removed.
On the chief minister’s instructions, computerised birth and death certificates will also be issued free of cost. Citizens can register births and deaths at Union Councils and Municipal Committees without charge for up to seven years.
CM Maryam said that identity is a fundamental right of every citizen. She added that the government aims to make access to services easier. A digital birth or death certificate is now mandatory to obtain services. Timely registration will help citizens protect their rights.
