Apple made its first major push into artificial intelligence with Apple Intelligence last year, aiming to bring AI tools to everyday users.
Now, with Apple Intelligence 2.0 just around the corner, iPhone users can expect an even deeper integration of AI across apps, Siri, and system features.
After years of relatively slow progress, Siri is finally getting the upgrade it deserves. Delayed features from last year, including personal context support, onscreen awareness, and hundreds of in-app actions, are now expected to roll out this fall with iOS 19.
But the real game-changer may be the introduction of LLM Siri—a large language model-powered assistant. Internally dubbed “LLM Siri,” this version will feel more conversational and human-like, offering intelligent task handling similar to ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. It’s expected to launch officially in spring 2026 with iOS 19.4, although shifting leadership at Apple may accelerate or delay this timeline.
Third-party AI models on the way
Apple is also looking beyond its own walls for AI innovation. After successfully integrating ChatGPT in iOS 18, the company is exploring deals with other AI leaders. Google’s Gemini is a top contender, with CEO Sundar Pichai expressing optimism about its inclusion in iOS 19. Even newer platforms like Perplexity AI could find a place in future updates.
AI coming to more native apps
Apple isn’t just enhancing Siri—it’s spreading AI capabilities across more of the iPhone experience. iOS 18 code revealed that Image Playground, Apple’s image generation feature, may soon be integrated into the Music app for creating custom playlist art. Although “groundbreaking” new features may still be under development, Apple is expected to expand current AI tools to more default apps.
Looking ahead
As WWDC 2025 approaches, all eyes are on Apple to reveal its AI roadmap. Whether Apple Intelligence 2.0 will be introduced as a single, sweeping update or trickled out through upcoming iOS versions remains to be seen—but one thing is clear: AI is becoming central to the iPhone experience.
