Google’s AI chatbot Gemini has crossed a major milestone, surpassing 750 million monthly active users, according to the company’s fourth-quarter 2025 earnings report.
The surge highlights how quickly Gemini has become a major force in the global AI race.
Google revealed that Gemini now has more than 750 million monthly active users (MAUs), underscoring strong consumer adoption of the AI app.
Just one quarter earlier, Gemini had reported 650 million MAUs. The sharp increase reflects accelerating interest in generative AI tools across Google’s ecosystem.
How Gemini compares with rivals
While Gemini’s growth has been rapid, it still trails behind its biggest competitor, ChatGPT.
ChatGPT is estimated to have around 810 million monthly active users in late 2025. Meanwhile, Meta AI has reported nearly 500 million monthly users, placing Gemini firmly between the two rivals.
The user surge comes shortly after Google launched Gemini 3, its most advanced AI model to date.
According to the company, Gemini 3 delivers responses with an unprecedented level of depth and nuance. The upgrade has played a key role in boosting engagement across the Gemini app.
Google leadership weighs in
CEO Sundar Pichai described the introduction of Gemini 3 in AI mode as a “positive driver” of growth.
He emphasized that continued investment and rapid iteration will be critical to sustaining momentum. Pichai also noted that Google’s first-party AI models now process more than 10 billion tokens per minute through direct API usage.
New subscription plan
Google has also rolled out a lower-priced subscription option, Google AI Plus, costing $7.99 per month.
The plan is designed to attract more budget-conscious users, although it was launched too recently to impact the latest quarterly figures. Executives expect it to support future growth.
“We are focused on a free tier and subscriptions and seeing great growth,” said Philipp Schindler, Google’s chief business officer, during the earnings call.
Gemini’s expansion comes amid a strong financial quarter for Alphabet, Google’s parent company.
Alphabet surpassed $400 billion in annual revenue for the first time, a milestone the company linked to rising demand for its AI products. Google has also introduced a new TPU AI accelerator chip, Ironwood, aimed at competing with Nvidia’s hardware dominance.
