Pakistani nationals seeking employment in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are required to fulfill certain legal requirements, with one of the most crucial being the acquisition of a "protector" from the Protectorate of Emigrants (PE).
This legal process is essential for safeguarding workers' rights and ensuring their protection while employed abroad.
Before departing for the UAE on a work visa, Pakistanis must have their foreign employment contract verified by the PE office.
The verification ensures that their employment terms comply with legal standards, offering them protection in case of disputes or issues while working overseas.
As part of the process, a protection stamp is affixed to the worker’s passport, which comes with a few mandatory fees. These fees include charges for Overseas Pakistani Foundation (OPF) registration, life insurance, and Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) fees.
Workers heading to the UAE are required to pay Rs 2,500 for life insurance, Rs 2,000 for OPF registration, Rs 2,500 for PE registration, and Rs 200 for OEC fees. The total cost of this protector process amounts to Rs 7,200.
