Former zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai, Sameer Wankhede, has taken legal action against Bollywood actor Rakhi Sawant by filing a defamation lawsuit.
Wankhede has also named lawyer Kaashif Ali Khan in the suit, alleging that both individuals made defamatory statements against him.
The lawsuit stems from an interview given by Khan to a channel in 2023, where he allegedly made false and baseless remarks about Wankhede, tarnishing his reputation as a dedicated Indian Revenue Service officer.
Wankhede asserts that the statements, including claims of being "media obsessed" and targeting celebrities, are entirely untrue and have caused him significant mental agony and emotional distress.

Seeking damages and compensation amounting to Rs 11 lakh, Wankhede highlights that Khan further exacerbated the situation by posting similar content on his Instagram account, which was subsequently shared by Rakhi Sawant. This sharing, according to Wankhede, compounded the reputational harm he suffered due to the defamatory remarks.
The defamation lawsuit underscores the serious repercussions of false statements in the public domain, particularly within the realm of Bollywood and law enforcement. As the legal battle unfolds, it brings to light the importance of verifying facts before making damaging allegations.
