A Pakistani-American paediatrician Dr Talat Jehan Khan lost her life after a brutal stabbing in her flat complex's common area in Conroe city of Texas state.
The tragic event unfolded around 12:30 pm on Saturday.
The 52-year-old medical professional Dr Talat Jehan had moved to the Alys Flats on Mansion View Drive only in July with her 14-year-old daughter.
She was dedicated to her two children and the young patients she cared for as a paediatrician at Texas Children's Paediatrics Conroe.
Witnesses living in the vicinity of the crime including children observed the attack as it occurred. A resident Matthew Amador recalled the horrifying moment when he grabbed his Katana sword in an attempt to intervene.
He chased the suspect, Miles Joseph Fridrich, who is believed to have committed this gruesome act.
It's noteworthy that several residents emerged from their homes, some even armed with firearms to assist. The timely arrival of the police led to the apprehension of the suspect.
Reports suggest that the suspect was known to reside under an overpass near the flat complex. Apparently, Fridrich had exhibited erratic behaviour especially when denied food from a local store.
The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) extended their deepest condolences to Dr Talat Jehan's family and is closely following the developments in the case.
The council urged the community to remain vigilant in support of the victim's family during these trying times.
Dr Talat Jehan - who had been attending the local mosque for several months - was highly regarded as a kind and faithful individual.
Mohammad Ayubi, the Associate Director of the Al Ansaar Mosque, shared his thoughts on the situation and his remarks indicated that the community is anxious for answers and is keen to understand the circumstances of the crime.
However, he emphasized unity, underlining the need for all Americans to stand together.
Meanwhile, security measures have been heightened at the mosque including additional patrols by the Conroe Police Department.
