Following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan, the country has increasingly become a hub for terrorism and unrest in the region.
Many Afghan refugees who fled to other nations are now being linked to illegal activities, including smuggling and terrorism. In response, German authorities have raised concerns over the growing involvement of Afghan refugees in such criminal acts.
Germany’s Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, addressed the issue in a parliamentary session, stating, "We will continue our efforts to deport Afghan refugees involved in criminal activities and ensure the safety of our nation." Faeser highlighted that the illegal activities of Afghan nationals pose a significant threat to internal security and the integrity of the country.
Recently, 28 Afghan criminals have already been deported, and German authorities have intensified their crackdown on offenders following incidents like recent attacks. Concerns over Afghan refugees’ involvement in global crimes, including drug smuggling, have also been echoed internationally.
Similar steps have been taken by other countries such as Pakistan, Iran, and Austria, all of which have announced plans to deport undocumented Afghan refugees to combat the rising threat of terrorism on their soil. The global community continues to question how long the Taliban's influence will allow terrorism to spread across borders.
