The business community of Faisalabad has taken legal action against Dr. Affan Qaiser, famous Pakistani Transplant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist, for his controversial statement about injecting watermelons, which they claim has caused widespread panic and significant financial losses.
The Faisalabad Traders Association have filed an application for registering a case at the Ghulam Muhammad Police Station.
Dr. Affan’s social media post, suggesting that watermelons were being injected with harmful substances, went viral and sparked fear among the public.
The petition filed by the traders states that his statement has led to chaos, severely impacting both traders and landlords. They argue that billions of rupees have been lost due to the resultant drop in watermelon sales and the panic it created among consumers.
The businessmen have sent a legal notice demanding Rs 10 billion in damages from Dr. Affan, holding him accountable for the economic disruption and the undue stress caused by his unfounded claims.
“Dr. Affan’s reckless comments have not only harmed our businesses but have also attempted to create nationwide chaos,” a representative of the traders association said. “We are seeking justice and accountability for the significant financial and emotional damage inflicted on us.”
