An Afghan national who entered the United States through the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome program has been arrested in Fort Worth for allegedly threatening to bomb a building, according to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
Mohammad Dawood Alokozay was taken into custody by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. He has been charged with making terroristic threats.
Authorities say Alokozay posted a TikTok video in which he appeared to claim he was constructing an explosive device and intended to target the Fort Worth area. McLaughlin confirmed that Alokozay arrived in the US as part of Operation Allies Welcome, the 2021 initiative created to resettle Afghan nationals following the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan. She also noted that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against him.
McLaughlin pointed out that Alokozay’s arrest occurred one day before a shooting near the White House that left one National Guard member dead and another injured. Officials have not indicated whether the two incidents are connected.
WFAA has contacted DHS, the FBI, and the Texas Department of Public Safety for additional information regarding Alokozay’s arrest.
