Yogurt improves digestive health, strengthens immunity, and contributes to healthier skin and bones, according to various scientific findings.
Regular consumption may also reduce the risk of high blood pressure and help prevent infections.
Improves digestion
Yogurt provides a rich source of probiotics, which are live bacteria that support intestinal function. These bacteria relieve digestive disorders, soothe the digestive tract, and help treat upset stomachs.
Boosts immunity
Researchers at the University of Vienna in Austria found that a daily intake of approximately 200 grams of yogurt strengthens the immune system. The study linked regular yogurt consumption with enhanced immune responses.
Improves skin health
Yogurt moisturises the skin and alleviates dryness. Poor digestion may contribute to acne, and regular intake of yogurt supports internal cleansing, which in turn promotes clearer skin. Applied topically, yogurt serves as a natural exfoliant, as its lactic acid content removes excess oil and dead skin cells.
Lowers blood pressure
At a scientific session hosted by the American Heart Association, findings showed that individuals who consumed more fat-free yogurt were 31 per cent less likely to develop high blood pressure. Proteins in yogurt, alongside nutrients such as potassium and magnesium, contribute to this protective effect and promote cardiovascular health.
Prevents infections
Yogurt helps regulate the body’s internal bacterial balance. The active cultures in yogurt limit the growth of harmful bacteria and reduce the risk of infections.
Strengthens bones
One cup of yogurt (250 grams) provides roughly 275 mg of calcium. This daily intake helps preserve bone density and supports skeletal strength.
