Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that the events that transpired on May 9 bore little difference from provocative actions carried out by India.
Speaking at a ceremony at the University of Sargodha for the distribution of laptops and "High Achievers Scholarships", CM Maryam said, “One may disagree with an individual, but on May 9, military installations were set ablaze. Their target was none other than our armed forces’ facilities.”
She went on to say, “The acts committed by that political party are such that even our enemies could not achieve them in decades. The uniforms that were disrespected belong to the very youth who have brought pride to the nation.”
Maryam Nawaz made it clear that the country's future lies in strong and secure hands, adding, “Our youth are the real bulwark of the nation.”
She said, “Just as one protects a laptop from viruses, one must safeguard the mind from political viruses.”
Referring to those misled during the political unrest, she noted, “The youth who fell for incitement are now behind bars. Never take a step against your motherland. Stay away from becoming fuel for chaos and conflict.”
She said, “Those who once put us in death cells—where are they now, and where are we?”

Earlier on Wednesday, CM Maryam hailed on Wednesday the collective efforts of the government and other institutions for steering the country out of the doldrums.
Addressing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) parliamentary party meeting in Lahore, she highlighted that the nation had triumphed against India. “The aircraft which were thought to be invincible were brought down. Congratulations to all Pakistanis on the victory against India,” she said.
She stated that during her visit to Mayo and Jinnah Hospitals, it became evident that patients were being asked to purchase medicines from outside.
“The Medical Superintendent had no explanation and was therefore suspended,” she said, adding that the hospital’s basement was found filled with stockpiled medicines.
CM Maryam said that free medicines are now being provided across the entire hospital network, not just in emergency departments as was the case during the previous PML-N government.
