The Pakistan Young Lawyers Forum for Judicial Reforms held a press conference at the National Press Club in Islamabad, expressing support for the proposed 26th Constitutional Amendment, which includes the establishment of constitutional courts.
Arslan Ayaz, a spokesperson for the forum, emphasized that judicial reforms are a critical need in Pakistan. He welcomed the parliament's efforts to work on these reforms within the framework of the constitution.
The proposed amendment suggests creating constitutional courts separate from the Supreme Court, with judges appointed through a parliamentary process for fixed tenures. Ayaz noted that 70 countries worldwide have similar constitutional courts.
Ayaz also mentioned that the concept of constitutional courts was part of the 2006 Charter of Democracy, indicating long-standing support for this reform.
