The opposition alliance, under the banner of the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-Aain-e-Pakistan, has unveiled a comprehensive 15-point national agenda during a joint press conference held in Islamabad.
The alliance called for urgent national unity in the face of internal crises and escalating regional tensions, including threats from India.
Key demands of the agenda include adherence to the Constitution, full implementation of the National Action Plan, the release of political prisoners, restoration of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), judicial and media independence, and the immediate holding of transparent general and local government elections through a free and impartial Election Commission of Pakistan.
‘Time to Unite the Country, Not Rule It’
Addressing the press conference, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, head of the movement, emphasized the urgent need for the formation of a national government, stating that Pakistan’s challenges could not be overcome without collective leadership.
“This is not the time for governance, this is the time to unite the country,” said Achakzai. “The entire region is turning into a battlefield. Let us forget the past and rebuild Pakistan with unity and purpose.”
Achakzai highlighted the need for national reconciliation and urged all political forces to prioritize the country's stability over power struggles.
Call for democratic reforms
Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, presenting the alliance's 15-point agenda, stressed that the current government must acknowledge rapidly shifting geopolitical dynamics and step away from isolationist policies on the external front.
“We demand immediate elections under a free and impartial Election Commission. Local bodies must also be empowered through fair elections,” he said.
The agenda also includes calls for media freedom, judicial independence, and a commitment to the rule of law as foundational principles for rebuilding trust in state institutions.
Opposition united on national defence
Former National Assembly speaker and senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser struck a nationalistic tone, stating that while political disagreements exist, all Pakistanis are united in defending the nation’s sovereignty.
“We will fight our fight and raise our voice for justice. But we will never allow anyone to challenge Pakistan’s sovereignty,” Qaiser asserted. “At this moment, we stand together against Indian aggression.”
The alliance also announced that a major consultative meeting will be held in Lahore on May 7, where future strategy and national coordination will be discussed.
