Sindh Labour Appellate Tribunal has suspended the earlier ruling of the Labour Court and ordered the reinstatement of 5,744 employees of Pakistan Steel Mills.
The tribunal also issued notices to the Pakistan Steel administration for May 14, directing them to respond to the matter.
The employees had been terminated by the administration, which subsequently filed a case in the Labour Court. On February 22, the Labour Court ruled in favor of the administration and upheld the dismissals.
However, following appeals, the Appellate Tribunal overturned the Labour Court’s decision, granting temporary relief to the affected workers until the final hearing.
This decision has been seen as a significant victory for the sacked employees, many of whom had been protesting the layoffs for months.
Further proceedings are scheduled for May 14, when Pakistan Steel Mills' management is expected to submit its response.
