With the arrival of Basant, the festive spirit has translated into booming business across Lahore, as kite sellers reported massive sales over just two days. Official figures show that trade linked to kite flying crossed Rs 340 million, setting new records in the city.
As Basant festivities began in Lahore, demand for kites, strings and pinoki surged sharply across markets. The Kite Flying Association released purchase and sale data showing unprecedented activity during the first two days of the season.
According to the association, the city witnessed non-stop buying as enthusiasts prepared to celebrate the traditional spring festival.
Rs340m business in just two days
The Kite Flying Association reported that kites, strings and pinoki worth Rs340 million were bought and sold over two days. Sales on the first day stood at Rs160 million, while the second day saw even higher activity worth Rs180 million.
These figures reflect one of the strongest starts to the Basant season in recent years, according to traders.
On the second day alone, more than 600,000 kites and strings were sold across Lahore. In addition, over 15,000 rolls of twine were purchased by buyers, highlighting the scale of public participation in the festival.
The association said the volume of sales continued to rise as more people joined Basant celebrations.
Records set in markets
With consistent crowds and high demand, records were set in the sale of kites, strings and related accessories. The Kite Flying Association said the pace of buying during the first two days surpassed expectations.
Traders believe the strong opening indicates sustained business activity if the festive momentum continues in the coming days.
