Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) has strongly condemned the recent United States-led airstrikes on its nuclear facilities, denouncing the coordinated action with Israel as a “brutal assault” and a “clear violation of international law” and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
In an official statement released on Sunday, the AEOI described the strikes on the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan sites as an “aggressive act of war,” and squarely blamed Washington for what it termed an unlawful attack on its sovereign infrastructure.
“These targeted strikes are not only an act of aggression but also a blatant breach of the internationally binding obligations under the NPT, to which Iran remains a signatory,” the statement said.
The Iranian nuclear agency also criticised the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), accusing it of maintaining a “concerning silence” in the face of the attacks and failing to uphold its responsibilities as a global watchdog.
“The indifference of the IAEA to such grave violations severely undermines its credibility and neutrality,” the AEOI noted, adding that “such silence in the face of unlawful aggression raises serious questions about the agency’s independence.”
Citing US President Donald Trump’s own public statement acknowledging the strikes, the AEOI held the United States fully accountable for the consequences of what it called “a reckless escalation with long-term repercussions for regional and global stability.”
Despite the attack, the agency reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to its nuclear programme, stating that the country would not be deterred by “illegal military aggression.”
“Our peaceful nuclear activities will continue with greater determination. These actions will not stop the scientific and technical progress of the Iranian nation,” the statement added.
The AEOI further revealed that legal consultations are underway to initiate international proceedings against both the United States and Israel, aiming to hold them responsible for violating Iran’s rights under international law.
Iranian officials have also signalled that formal complaints will be lodged with the United Nations and other relevant international legal bodies in the coming days.
The strikes, which targeted Iran’s key nuclear installations using powerful GBU-57 “bunker buster” bombs, were carried out in the early hours of Sunday, prompting global concern over a potential regional conflagration.
