The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reissued its Point of Sale (POS) reward scheme in the federal capital to counter tax evasion through fake business receipts.
Under this initiative, consumers can win cash prizes for shopping at FBR-registered retailers who are connected to the tax authority’s computerized system. The scheme offers Rs 10,000 for receipts up to Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000 for receipts above that amount, with winners selected via lottery.
FBR officials highlighted that some POS tier-one retailers have been found issuing counterfeit receipts, undermining legitimate tax collection efforts.
The FBR is encouraging consumers to verify their receipts through the Tax Easy mobile app. By scanning for a QR code on their receipt, customers can confirm its authenticity. Additionally, the FBR has urged consumers to refuse raw receipts from shopkeepers and to use the Tax Easy app to report any suspicious invoices.
Consumers can further assist the FBR by sharing details of any fraudulent activity. The process includes photographing the receipt, retailer, or restaurant issuing the suspicious receipt, and uploading these details, along with the location, on the Tax Easy app.
The reward scheme will initially apply to all tier-one retailers and restaurants in Islamabad, with full implementation across the city from November 11. Following this, the scheme will be expanded nationwide on November 30, signaling FBR’s commitment to fostering transparency and accountability in tax collection.
