Apple’s iPhone displays are known for their sharp visuals and smooth performance, but they can also be a major drain on battery life.
If you’re tired of seeing the low battery pop-up, a few easy display setting changes could help your iPhone last longer each day.
The iPhone’s display is one of its biggest power consumers, particularly when brightness is set high.
This becomes more noticeable outdoors or in bright environments where higher brightness levels are required. Since iPhone batteries are generally smaller than those in comparable Android devices, display-related battery-saving tips can make a real difference.
Turn down display brightness
Lowering screen brightness remains one of the most effective ways to conserve battery on an iPhone.
You can quickly adjust brightness by opening the Control Center and dragging the sun icon slider downward. Keeping brightness at a comfortable but lower level reduces backlight usage, which helps preserve battery power.
Disable auto-brightness
Auto-brightness can undo your manual brightness adjustments by increasing screen brightness in well-lit areas.
To disable it, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and turn off Auto-Brightness. This gives you full control over brightness levels and prevents unnecessary battery drain in bright rooms or outdoor settings.
Use low power mode when needed
Low Power Mode is designed to reduce overall power consumption, including how the display behaves.
When enabled, it dims the screen, limits auto-brightness effects, shortens screen timeout to 30 seconds, and reduces refresh rates on ProMotion-enabled iPhones from 120Hz to 60Hz. You can activate it manually from the Control Center or when prompted at 20%, 10%, or 5% battery.
Reduce auto lock time
Adjusting Auto Lock ensures your iPhone screen doesn’t stay on longer than necessary.
You can find this setting under Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto Lock. Choosing a shorter time helps conserve battery if you frequently set your phone down without locking it manually.
Enable dark mode on OLED iPhones
Dark Mode replaces bright backgrounds with darker tones across menus and system apps.
This is especially effective on iPhones with OLED displays, which don’t illuminate black pixels. Since most iPhones from the iPhone X onward use OLED screens, Dark Mode can noticeably reduce power usage, though LCD-based models may see minimal benefit.
