Government of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir have unveiled a monumental relief package aimed at addressing the pressing needs of the people in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The package, totaling over Rs23 billion, encompasses significant reductions in the prices of essential commodities and utilities, fulfilling long-standing public demands.
Key highlights of the package include a substantial decrease in the price of flour, with a 40 kg bag now priced at Rs1100, down from Rs3100. Additionally, residents of Azad Kashmir will now have access to 20kg of flour for Rs1000 and 40kg for Rs2000, providing much-needed relief to households.
In connection with these measures, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Energy Department has announced reductions in electricity prices for both residential and commercial consumers. Household electricity tariffs range from Rs3 per kilowatt hour for consumption up to 100 units, increasing to Rs5 for 100 to 300 units, and Rs 6 for usage exceeding 300 units.
Similarly, commercial users will benefit from reduced rates, with electricity priced at Rs10 per unit for consumption up to 300 units and Rs15 for usage exceeding 300 units.
Furthermore, responding to another key demand, the establishment of a judicial commission to review the privileges of top government officials in Azad Kashmir has been approved, indicating a commitment to transparency and accountability.
The announcement of these measures has led to the cessation of protests by the Awami Action Committee, marking a significant milestone where all public demands have been met by the government. This proactive approach not only addresses the immediate needs of the people but also undermines the agendas of anti-national elements, fostering unity and progress in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
