Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman vehemently on Sunday criticised the legitimacy of the current parliament, alleging it to be a result of extensive rigging.
Addressing the media in Karachi, Fazl declared that the prevailing democracy is losing its essence while parliament is dwindling in significance, asserting that the current assembly fails to reflect the true representation of the populace.
"This parliament is not representative of the people. Some individuals may consider themselves rulers, but they will never win the hearts of the nation," the seasoned poltician expressed adamantly during the press conference.
Pointing towards the alleged surge in electoral malpractices, Maulana Fazlur Rehman claimed that the rigging witnessed in the 2024 elections surpassed the levels witnessed in 2018, casting doubt on the fairness and integrity of the electoral process
"We reject these conditions and will continue to do so. We cannot allow our rights to be stolen," he declared.
Stressing a nationwide movement to challenge the perceived injustices, Maulana Fazlur Rehman asserted, "We have rejected the election results across the country. We will devise a plan to mobilize the entire nation against these injustices. The people will not remain silent in the face of such blatant disregard for their rights."
Addressing the issue of power dynamics within the parliament, Maulana Fazlur Rehman accused certain individuals of treating the seats of power as their personal fiefdoms, attempting to manipulate the legislative process through financial means. "If assemblies are to be run based on money, then we are ready to confront such practices," he proclaimed.
While advocating for freedom of expression within the bounds of the constitution and law, Maulana Fazlur Rehman highlighted the growing disillusionment among the youth and the populace at large with the current state of affairs.
"Many of us, including myself, are deeply disappointed with the functioning of the parliament," he remarked.
