In a major milestone for Pakistan’s space program, the country’s advanced remote sensing satellite is set to be launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Centre tomorrow (July 31).
Preparations for the launch have been finalized, according to a spokesperson for SUPARCO, Pakistan’s national space agency.
The satellite is scheduled to be launched between 7am and 8am Pakistan Standard Time. Scientists and engineers from SUPARCO are already present at the Chinese launch centre to oversee the mission.
“This is a significant achievement for Pakistan’s scientific and technological progress,” the SUPARCO spokesperson said. The satellite is expected to enhance Pakistan’s capabilities in environmental monitoring, disaster management, and urban planning.
Key capabilities of satellite
The advanced satellite will play a crucial role in monitoring infrastructure development and tracking urban expansion across Pakistan. More importantly, it is equipped with high-resolution remote sensing technology that can provide early warnings for natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and land erosion.
Launch ceremony and broadcast
A special ceremony will be held at SUPARCO’s headquarters in Islamabad. A video message from Project Director Dr. Muhammad Yasir, who is currently in China for the launch, will also be broadcast during the event. The launch will be aired live at SUPARCO Islamabad, allowing scientists, government officials, and invited guests to witness the momentous occasion in real time.
