Engin Altan Düzyatan, the globally acclaimed Turkish actor known for his role as Ertuğrul in Diriliş: Ertuğrul, has once again captured hearts, this time not through a drama but through his real-life memories of Pakistan.
With over 5.2 million followers on Instagram, Engin continues to hold a special place in the hearts of Pakistani fans.
In a recent interview, the actor fondly recounted his first visit to Karachi during the COVID-19 pandemic and shared a few humorous and unforgettable moments:
“My visit to Pakistan was truly amazing. The people love Ertugrul so much! I had just arrived in Karachi, was unpacking in my room, and suddenly a bunch of people walked in. I told them, ‘This is my room,’ but they replied, ‘Yeah, yeah, come, come — we’re here for pictures!’ It was crazy — no one cared about social distancing!”
He laughed while narrating how surprised he was at the casual attitude toward COVID-19.
“People kept saying it’s a lie, and no one dies from it. And shockingly, no one was dying!”

Engin also shared a dramatic yet heartwarming incident that occurred during a visit to a famous mosque in Pakistan: “I was meeting the Imam when suddenly the mosque got flooded with nearly 4,000 to 5,000 people. There was no security, and eventually, the national guards had to step in to rescue me. It was overwhelming but amazing.”
Despite the chaos, Engin Altan expressed nothing but admiration for the love he received in Pakistan.
Pakistani fans have flooded social media with appreciation and love for the actor. Many praised him for his kind words and for not mentioning controversial TikToker Kashif Zameer, who previously scammed him during one of his visits.
“It’s a great gesture that he didn’t bring up Kashif Zameer. Truly a gentleman,” wrote one user.
“We are so sorry for that unfortunate experience. Pakistan loves you, Engin!” said another.
The people of Pakistan continue to embrace Turkish culture and actors, and Engin Altan’s respectful and humorous recollection has only deepened that affection.
