The federal government has officially announced that Wednesday, May 28 will be observed as a public holiday across the country in connection with Youm-e-Takbeer, commemorating Pakistan’s historic nuclear tests conducted on the same day in 1998.
The government had already included May 28 in the official list of public holidays last year, reaffirming the significance of the occasion in the country’s national history. A formal notification confirming the holiday was issued.
On Monday, the Sindh government officially declared Wednesday, May 28, as a public holiday to commemorate Youm-e-Takbeer.
According to a notification issued by the chief secretary, all government offices, including provincial departments, autonomous bodies, and local municipal councils across Sindh, will remain closed on the occasion.

Moreover, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) will also remain closed on May 28 in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer. In an official notice issued on Monday, the PSX informed all concerned stakeholders that the closure was in line with the public holiday declared by the Government of Pakistan.
“All concerned are hereby informed that Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited will remain closed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, being a public holiday declared by the Government of Pakistan on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer,” the notice read.
