Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said on Saturday that the cracks once visible in national unity have now turned into a strong sense of solidarity and that the nation's war is now solely against terrorists.
Speaking to media in Sialkot, Asif said, "We have defeated India on the eastern front. Now, India is involved in infiltrations along our western borders. By the grace of Allah, we will achieve even greater success on the western front than we did in the east."
He added that "India sent large aircraft which our armed forces brought down like kites. In this war, the names of our martyrs and heroes have become immortal in the history of Pakistan."
The minister affirmed that the government stands shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces in defending the nation.
He emphasised that the civilian leadership has conveyed its full support to the brave military, adding that the courage and leadership of the armed forces' commanders played a vital role in their success. "I extend my congratulations to the chiefs of all three services and to the soldiers of the Pakistan Army," he said.
