Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred continues to unleash destructive weather across South East Queensland and northern New South Wales, with forecasters warning of flood risks and severe conditions persisting over the coming days.
The ex-tropical low moved inland overnight, crossing Bribie Island, bringing category 1 cyclonic wind gusts of 104km/h in Redcliffe and 95km/h in Toowoomba, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).
Hervey Bay has been among the hardest-hit regions, with emergency services conducting multiple rescues after hundreds of millimetres of rain fell within hours. Officials have described it as one of the worst weather emergencies on record for the region.
The BOM warns that heavy rainfall will intensify as the system moves west, before shifting south over the NSW border. Forecasts predict:

The wild weather has left over 320,000 homes in South East Queensland and 16,000 in northern NSW without power.
Flash flooding has already swamped parts of Brisbane and Hervey Bay, with authorities urging residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
Emergency services remain on high alert, with further flooding, power outages, and road closures expected as the weather system moves south.
