National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq decided on Tuesday to maintain the negotiation committee.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Sadiq said: "The government had kept waiting for the opposition committee, but the opposition committee did not reach."
He urged both the government and the opposition to engage in dialogue. "The negotiations cannot be held on the basis of any preconditions," Sadiq said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said: "We have come to the meeting prepared. We have prepared the response pertaining to the demands of the PTI."
He added, "We are making all-out efforts to move the talks forward in a positive way."
"The talks were also held in the past. The PTI is behaving in an appropriate way," Dar said.
"We hope the PTI will attend the meeting. We will only give a response to the party's [PTI] demands during the meeting," he maintained.
Dar warned the opposition against making "one-sided" statements.
On the other side, speaking to the media, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui said: "We have prepared the response but cannot reveal the details."
"Our committee will remain intact until January 31 (Friday)," Siddiqui said.
