Actor Muneeb Butt has been declared innocent by investigators in a kidnapping and cryptocurrency robbery case being heard by an anti-terrorism court in Karachi.
Butt and other accused appeared before the court during the latest hearing, after which the proceedings were adjourned.
The Anti-Violent Crime Cell had submitted the case challan during the previous hearing.
According to the investigation report, Muneeb Butt was found innocent of the allegations levelled against him. The court will consider the police findings and other evidence as the case proceeds.
Police officer remains absconding
Police officer Ghalib, who is allegedly involved in the case, remains absconding. Authorities have accused the suspects of kidnapping the complainant and depriving him of cryptocurrency reportedly worth 2.494 million.
The currency in which the alleged value was calculated was not specified in the available report.
Muneeb accused of providing accommodation
Muneeb Butt had been accused of arranging accommodation in Murree for the suspects allegedly involved in the incident. However, investigators did not find sufficient evidence to establish his involvement and declared him innocent in the challan.
Butt, Mohsin Rajpar and Abdul Rehman Chandio have obtained bail in the case.
According to the prosecution, the accused kidnapped a citizen from Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal on April 23. The complainant was allegedly robbed of his cryptocurrency and other belongings while in the custody of the accused.
The suspects later left him in the Korangi Industrial Area, according to the case record. Further proceedings will take place when the anti-terrorism court resumes the hearing.
