Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi has been appointed as the coordinator for the Islamic Affairs, Gulf States and Interfaith Harmony.
According to details surfaced on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the appointment of Ashrafi as the coordinator. A formal notification of his appointment has been issued.
It is pertinent to note that Ashrafi is a member of Supreme Council of the Muslim World League and also holds membership of several leading international and Islamic organisations. He maintains close personal links with prominent Islamic and Arab figures.
Ashrafi has previously served in this role as the special representative. In the present circumstances, his responsibilities will focus on coordination and the strengthening of relations.
In Pakistan, Ashrafi has played a significant role in promoting interfaith and inter-sect harmony and tolerance.
