Ali Tareen has confirmed he will step down as owner of the Multan Sultans.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Tareen addressed the team’s supporters: "To all Multan Sultans fans, being part of this team has been one of the greatest honours of my life. I love the fans, I love this team, and I am proud to have represented South Punjab, a cause my late uncle Alamgir Tareen especially valued."
Tareen highlighted the ethos he instilled in players and staff. "Every season, I reminded them what it means to represent this region: a community of people who work hard, fight for their rights and push through challenges daily. The fans will forgive a loss, but never a lack of effort. That principle has guided everything we have done, on and off the field."

Being part of this team has been one of the greatest honours of my life. I love the fans, I love this team, and I absolutely love being able to represent South Punjab. Something my late uncle Alamgir Tareen was especially proud of.

"Despite consistent financial losses, Tareen emphasised that he never considered leaving. "The Sultans have always meant more to me than mere numbers. I have always been willing to go as far as necessary to protect the team."
Acknowledging his own style, he added: "I am not everyone’s cup of tea, but I have always spoken my mind. If staying required compromising those principles, there was only one choice."
Tareen maintained: "I would rather lose this team while standing on my feet than run it from my knees. So, this is goodbye. This team belongs to the fans and to South Punjab. Whoever takes control next must have your continued support. I will be in the stands, cheering them on."
