Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has firmly rejected India’s demand to place Pakistan’s nuclear assets under international supervision, calling the suggestion “ridiculous” and politically motivated.
In an exclusive conversation with Samaa TV, the defence minister assured the public and the international community that Pakistan’s nuclear program is fully secure and responsibly managed.
“If someone makes such demands, it clearly reflects their own agenda,” Asif said, referring to India’s recent call for placing Pakistan’s nuclear weapons under the oversight of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Khawaja Asif pointed out that the IAEA itself has recently issued a statement reaffirming its confidence in the safety and integrity of Pakistan’s nuclear assets. He stressed that Pakistan has consistently fulfilled all international obligations and safety protocols required for a nuclear power.
“Pakistan is a responsible state,” he emphasized. “We have met all the necessary international requirements, and our nuclear facilities are in completely safe hands.”
Ceasefire with India holding
On the topic of regional peace, the defence minister confirmed that a ceasefire agreement with India is currently in place and holding. However, he warned against placing blind trust in New Delhi.
“India cannot be fully trusted, but we hope the ceasefire continues,” Asif stated. “A ceasefire doesn’t come with an expiry date — only through dialogue can further paths to peace be explored.”
