An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday indicted former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, and others in the May 9 riots case registered at Shadman Police Station.
The charges were presented in connection with a case registered at Shadman Police Station regarding the damage to public and private properties.
The ATC judge Manzoor Ali Gill conducted the hearing at the Kot Lakhpat Jail, where the accused appeared. During the proceedings, the defendants denied the charges against them.
In addition to Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Dr Yasmin Rashid, other accused, including Sanam Javed, are also facing charges.
The Shadman Police had registered the case following the violent protests that erupted across the country after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case at Islamabad High Court on May 9, 2023.
The nationwide protests, led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, destroyed military, civil, and private properties. At least 8 people were killed, and 290 others were injured in the clashes.
Law enforcement agencies detained over 1,900 individuals involved in the riots, vandalism, and arson, while cases were also registered against Imran Khan, PTI leaders, and party workers.
