During a session chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the National Assembly delved into the issue of attacks targeting foreigners working on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
Details presented during the session shed light on the extent of these attacks and their devastating consequences.
According to written responses provided by the Ministry of Interior, a total of eight attacks on foreigners were reported between 2020 and 2024. These attacks resulted in the loss of 62 lives.
The ministry outlined that in Sindh, three attacks targeted Chinese nationals and one Japanese, resulting in the loss of five lives.
Balochistan, another province where CPEC projects are located, witnessed two attacks on Chinese residents. These attacks resulted in injuries to three security personnel tasked with protecting the foreign workers.

Similarly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also experienced two attacks on Chinese residents, resulting in casualties among both security personnel and civilians. In these incidents, 17 individuals, and two security personnel were martyred.
On March 26, five Chinese nationals were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in was attacked in the Bisham tehsil of Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Malakand Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Muhammad Ali claimed that five foreign engineers and their driver were feared to be the victims after their car was attacked.

He further said that many people were feared injured in the attack also. "The attack appears to be a suicide, but an investigation is underway," the police officer said, adding that the passenger vehicle was going from Islamabad to Kohistan.
Following the attack, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan strongly condemned the incident and demanded thorough investigation along with severe punishment for the perpetrators.
The attack, which claimed the lives of at least six individuals, including five Chinese nationals, occurred when a suicide bomber targeted a vehicle carrying Chinese nationals, as reported by Malakand's deputy inspector general of police (DIG).
The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan confirmed the unfortunate deaths of five Chinese citizens and one Pakistani citizen in the attack.
