By June 2025, the province's outstanding debt had increased to Rs1.757 trillion, reflecting a rise of about Rs75 billion over the two-year period.
The latest increase highlights the continued expansion of Punjab's debt portfolio.
Every resident carries debt burden
Based on the current debt level, every citizen of Punjab now carries an estimated debt burden of Rs13,538.
The figure provides an indication of the province's per capita share of the government's total outstanding liabilities.
The latest data also shows that all of Punjab's outstanding debt consists of external loans.
The province's borrowing portfolio is therefore entirely made up of foreign debt, with no domestic debt mentioned in the latest figures.

With the province's liabilities nearing Rs1.76 trillion, debt management and financial sustainability are expected to remain key issues for policymakers in the coming months.
