A fresh bail application has been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking the release of PTI founder Imran Khan in the Toshakhana II case on medical grounds.
His legal team says he is suffering from a serious eye disease that cannot be properly treated in jail. The application was submitted through Barrister Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry.
In addition to the bail plea, a miscellaneous application has also been filed requesting an early hearing of the sentence suspension in the £190 million case.
Lawyers have urged the court to take up the matter urgently in light of the PTI founder’s deteriorating health.
Medical grounds cited
According to the application, the PTI founder is suffering from a serious eye disease. The condition was diagnosed by Dr. Muhammad Arif of PIMS, the petition states. The doctor reportedly declared that the right eye has been severely affected due to a blood clot. As a result, vision in the right eye has reduced to only 15%.
The application argues that proper treatment is not possible inside jail. It further states that the PTI founder is 73 years old and should be granted bail on humanitarian and medical grounds.
Speaking to media at the Islamabad High Court, Barrister Safdar said that an application has been filed for an early hearing following the diagnosis of the eye disease.
He requested that the PTI founder’s cases be fixed for hearing next week. Safdar specifically appealed for the bail applications of both the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi to be scheduled on Monday.
Concerns over Bushra Bibi’s bail
Barrister Salman Safdar also raised concerns regarding Bushra Bibi’s continued detention. He stated that she is a woman and has not been granted bail for over a year.
The legal team urged the court to consider her bail plea alongside the PTI founder’s case.
With multiple cases pending, including the Toshakhana II case and the £190 million reference, the PTI founder’s legal team is pressing for relief through the courts.
The Islamabad High Court is now expected to decide whether to fix the cases for early hearing and consider the bail plea on medical grounds.
