Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said on Thursday that the government will send Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan abroad for treatment if it becomes necessary.
Speaking on Samaa TV programme Nadeem Malik Live, Chaudhry said that the government had no objection if Imran Khan wished to receive treatment at Shifa International Hospital, and that he should undergo any necessary medical check-ups.
He added that there was no personal enmity with Imran Khan and that the founder’s health remained the priority. Chaudhry said that there were possibilities of reversible and repairable treatment for Imran Khan’s eye condition, and that full treatment could resolve the issue.
Chaudhry said that this was the second medical report regarding Imran Khan’s condition. According to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) report, Imran Khan's eye condition improved after treatment, adding that Salman Safdar, being a lawyer, was not qualified to issue a medical report.
He stated that Imran Khan was transferred to the Pims at his own request and that he was examined daily.
Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital president retired Major General Rehmat Khan said that the hospital did not treat any patient as “special”, and that it treated ordinary prisoners and even Afghan nationals who came for treatment. He said that the hospital was not involved in politics and would provide the best possible medical care if Imran Khan was brought there.
He added that he did not know the exact nature of Imran Khan’s eye condition but confirmed that Al-Shifa had all facilities for treating eye diseases.
PTI leader Mohammad Humayun Mohmand said that Imran Khan had repeatedly informed the authorities about a decline in his vision, but no action was taken. He termed this as a crime committed by the federal and Punjab governments. He accused the government of deliberately harming Imran Khan..
