Health experts have warned that two new viruses could pose a major public health threat in the United States.
The viruses, Influenza D, which spreads from animals, and a coronavirus found in dogs, have largely gone unnoticed by scientists so far. Researchers have raised concerns about these viruses in a recent report.
Professor John Lednicky from the University of Florida said that available research indicates both viruses have the potential to cause respiratory illnesses in humans, but no effective preventive or protective measures have been implemented yet.
If these viruses develop the ability to transmit easily from person to person, they could trigger outbreaks or even global pandemics, as most people currently have no immunity against them.
