The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General said that Israel’s move related to Somaliland is a violation of international law.
An emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers on the Somaliland dispute was held in Saudi Arabia. The Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Ishaq Dar attended the session.
Addressing the meeting, the OIC Secretary General said the organisation supports Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Waleed bin Abdulkarim said all attempts to harm Somalia’s sovereignty are rejected. He said the Somali government can unite countries of the region through dialogue. He also stressed the need for the second phase of a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Palestinian foreign minister said they support Somalia’s borders as recognised by the United Nations. He termed Israel’s move to recognise Somaliland as a violation of international law.
The Somalia’s foreign minister said Somalia’s land will not be allowed for use by any country. He said any breach of Somalia’s borders amounts to a breach of its sovereignty. He added that the so-called Somaliland is an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia and that Israeli claims violate Somalia’s sovereignty.
Addressing the meeting, the Turkish representative said Israel’s move to recognise the so-called Somaliland is unacceptable. He said Türkiye’s support for Somalia’s unity and sovereignty remains firm.
