The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a severe cold wave alert for several northern regions and northern Balochistan, warning of intensified cold conditions and associated health and travel risks.
According to the spokesperson of the National Disaster Management Authority, the alert has been issued by the National Emergency Operation Center. The advisory highlights a prolonged spell of severe cold weather across multiple regions of the country.
The NDMA spokesperson said severe cold will continue in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Pothohar region. Similar harsh cold conditions are also expected to persist in northern parts of Balochistan.
Sharp drop in temperatures
Authorities warned of a significant increase in the intensity of cold in Quetta, Ziarat, and Kalat. Residents in these areas have been advised to prepare for extremely low temperatures in the coming days.
The NDMA cautioned that severe cold could increase respiratory illnesses, particularly among children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions. The spokesperson also warned that ongoing cold weather may damage standing crops, potentially affecting agricultural output.
Fog warning
In addition to cold temperatures, the NDMA has warned of dense fog in plain areas, especially during early morning hours.
Citizens have been advised to exercise caution while traveling, as reduced visibility may pose serious road safety risks.
The NDMA spokesperson urged citizens to stay informed through official weather updates and take preventive measures to protect health and livelihoods. Relevant authorities have also been asked to remain alert to manage any emergency situations arising from the cold wave.
