Karachi experienced another earthquake within a span of 24 hours on Monday morning.
According to the National Seismological Center, the latest tremor measured 3.2 on the Richter scale and had its epicentre near Quaidabad, with a shallow depth.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department confirmed that the earthquake was minor in nature, but enough to be felt across various parts of the city.
Tremors were reported from Quaidabad, Malir, Landhi, Sherpao Colony, Port Qasim, and adjacent areas. Panic-stricken residents, many of whom were still on edge from earlier quakes, evacuated buildings, chanting Allahu Akbar as fear spread through communities. Eyewitnesses described people gathering in open spaces amid cries and confusion.
Earlier, on Sunday night at 1:06am, the city was jolted by a 3.2 magnitude earthquake with its epicentre near Gadap Town. Tremors were felt in Khokhrapar, Malir, Landhi, Quaidabad, Future Mor, Gul Ahmed, and Hospital Chowrangi. No loss of life or property was reported in that incident.
On Monday morning, another mild quake struck with the same intensity of 3.2, again with an epicentre near Quaidabad. Residents in Landhi, Sherpao Colony, Port Qasim, and surrounding localities reported feeling the tremors, prompting evacuations from homes and workplaces.
Seismologists have categorised all three tremors as low-intensity events, but the frequency of earthquakes in a short span of time has raised concern among the public. Experts have reiterated the need for earthquake preparedness in the city, which sits near tectonic boundaries and is considered vulnerable due to its unregulated urban development.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours, and adhere to safety guidelines during seismic activity. So far, no injuries or damage to infrastructure have been reported in any of the three quakes.
