Muhammad Afzal Harifal, President of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, has expressed concerns about Pakistan’s current judicial system, stating that the system operates more on individuals than on society as a whole.
He highlighted that the country has not tailored its judiciary and laws to meet the specific needs of its people.
Speaking about the current judicial framework, Harifal emphasized the significant role of intention within the system. He pointed out that providing relief to the common person is not a priority, which is why many are now turning back to traditional forums like jirga and panchayat for justice, as the formal justice system has not undergone necessary reforms.
Former Vice Chairman of the Balochistan Bar Council, Advocate Munir Kakar, also stressed the need for major changes in Pakistan’s judicial system. He called for separate mechanisms for handling constitutional matters and social justice.
Advocate Munir Kakar further suggested that the Supreme Court should operate regularly at the provincial level to ensure timely justice. He also underscored the urgent need to increase the number of judges to address the growing population and ensure access to justice for all.
