The issue of increasing salaries and pensions for federal government employees is under active consideration as part of the upcoming federal budget, sources said.
Various proposals are being reviewed, including a 10% increase in salaries and pensions in line with rising inflation. According to finance ministry sources, a 30% disparity allowance is also being proposed for employees from Grade 1 to 16.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to make the final decision during the federal cabinet meeting scheduled for June 10.
The federal government has already assured underprivileged employees that salary discrepancies will be addressed, and both verbal and written agreements have been made with employee representatives in this regard.
Additionally, there is a proposal to merge one of the two previous ad hoc allowances into the basic salary. Another suggestion under review includes extending the exemption for armed forces personnel from the contributory pension scheme for another year.
Federal employees have demanded a 50% increase in both salaries and minimum wages. If their demands are not met, they have announced a sit-in outside Parliament House on June 10.
