In an unusual and modern twist on catching a cheating spouse, a UK woman uncovered her husband’s infidelity with the help of an electric toothbrush app.
What started as a simple effort to monitor her children’s dental hygiene turned into a shocking discovery of betrayal.
Paul Jones, a seasoned British private investigator with over 10 years of experience, recently shared one of his most unexpected cases. A mother of two had been using a smartphone app connected to their electric toothbrushes to keep track of her children’s brushing habits. However, she soon noticed that her husband’s brushing activity was being logged at odd times—especially when her children were at school and her husband was supposed to be at work.
“At first, brushing late on a Friday morning didn’t raise immediate concerns,” Jones explained. “But over time, the woman noticed a clear pattern: the electric toothbrush was being used regularly at 10:48 am on Fridays, even though her husband claimed to be at work.”
The truth was far from what he claimed. The husband hadn’t been at his workplace on Friday mornings for months. Instead, he was engaging in an affair with a colleague — right inside their family home — confident no one would be around to catch him.
“The data from smart devices is timestamped, often location-based, and completely objective,” Jones said. “When a device logs that someone brushed their teeth at 10:48 am while they were supposed to start work at 9 am, it’s difficult to explain.”
Jones issued a warning to anyone trying to hide their secrets: “Smart devices like voice assistants and even toothbrushes can store innocent data that ends up revealing the truth. No matter how careful you are, these digital footprints can catch you.”
