The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new mobile application, PakID, aimed at making the process of obtaining and updating identity documents more convenient for Pakistani citizens.
According to NADRA officials, the PakID mobile app allows users to apply for a new Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis) without needing to visit a registration center.
One of the app's key features is face verification technology, which enables users to verify their identity through a facial scan instead of the traditional fingerprint method. This upgrade significantly enhances accessibility, especially for individuals living abroad or in remote areas.
Citizens holding a B-form can also apply for a new identity card directly through the app. Moreover, users now have the option to make essential changes to their existing CNICs, such as updating their address, name, or other personal details, all through a simple digital interface.
Another major innovation is the introduction of a dematerialized identity card, which allows users to store a digital version of their CNIC securely on their mobile devices -- providing a paperless and more secure alternative to physical cards.
To download the PakID app, users can scan the QR code available on NADRA's official website or download it directly from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
