Punjab Education Minister Sikandar Hayat has announced the decision to dismantle the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) in a move aimed at restructuring Punjab's educational landscape.
He also announced plans to consolidate four distinct education institutions into a single entity. This strategic overhaul seeks to enhance educational governance and effectiveness under the centralized leadership of the chief minister.
During an exclusive interview with Samaa TV in Lahore, Hayat elaborated on the comprehensive reform agenda, emphasizing the merger of the textbook board, Punjab Education Commission, and teacher training institutions into one unified body. A department will be created under the leadership of the CM, including all four sectors, he added.
Additionally, the curriculum development function will be integrated within this streamlined framework.
Under the restructured setup, the Chief Minister of Punjab will assume direct oversight of the education department. The minister indicated that individuals from private institutions would also be included in the department.
Moreover, he highlighted that educators and stakeholders at all levels would be actively engaged. He emphasized that teachers' expertise and insights would be duly considered before creating books.
Furthermore, Hayat stressed the importance of maintaining quality standards in educational materials, asserting that teachers and students' perspectives would be central to the evaluation and improvement of textbooks and examination papers.
