Mohamed Salah’s future has once again become the centre of attention after Egypt’s exit from the 2026 World Cup in the last 16 against Argentina, led by Lionel Messi.
The 34-year-old forward now faces a decision over his next destination after announcing in March that he would leave Liverpool.
Saudi Pro League pushes strongly to secure Salah's services
According to The Athletic, Sporting Kansas City are interested in signing the Egyptian star, but the move appears difficult. The Saudi Pro League is also pushing strongly to secure Salah’s services, while the player himself prefers to continue his career in Europe.
However, as he considers his options, Salah has not ruled out a move to Major League Soccer.
The report stated that Peter Mallouk, the club’s new majority owner, who has Egyptian roots, wants to bring Salah to Sporting Kansas City.
The club is going through a period of transition following the departure of its legendary player Peter Vermes. After the ownership change, new sporting director David Lee has been given the task of rebuilding the squad, with the team currently behind other clubs in the league and at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.
Sporting Kansas City currently have two players listed as designated players, a category that allows clubs to sign stars on salaries above the league’s normal limit. Those players are Dejan Joveljić and Manu García.
The club also has a third designated player place available, and all signs suggest it wants to use that position for a major signing. The dream target is Salah.
