Egypt national football team captain Mohamed Salah said on Friday that the events of the World Cup mark the start of a new chapter for Egyptian football.
Taking on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Salah said he intends to return the national team to the position it deserves on the international stage.
Salah hopes new era to start for Egypt
He said he knows supporters are still disappointed by the team's exit from the tournament. He pledged to give his maximum effort to make sure this would be the start of a new era for Egyptian football on the international stage.
Salah vows to return with fresh resolve
Salah added that qualifying for the World Cup alone would not be enough. He said the national team would aim to compete for the title and added that the squad deserves the trust of its supporters.
It is pertinent to note that Egypt were knocked out of the World Cup in the round of 16 after a 3-2 defeat to Argentina. The team had led by two goals before losing the match.
