The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued on Friday an alert for the second spell of the monsoon in Balochistan, saying a fresh spell of rain will begin on July 11 and continue until July 12.
According to the PMD, heavy rain is expected in Zhob, Sherani, Dukki, Kohlu and Harnai. Rain accompanied by thunder is also likely in Loralai, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Dera Bugti and Khuzdar.
Heavy rainfall causes flash floods
The PMD warned that heavy rainfall could cause flash floods in streams and hill torrents, while landslides remain a risk in mountainous areas.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has directed the administrations of the affected districts to remain on alert. It has also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during the wet weather.
The PDMA advised residents not to stay in unsafe or damaged houses. It also urged the public to avoid picnic spots, streams, hill torrents and seasonal water crossings during the rains.
